Abnormalities of growth and development in puberty.

چکیده
Disorders of grow th and pubertal development in the teenage years present as a spectrum of abnormalities embracing common normal variants, less common disease states, and rare disorders increasingly recognised and understood as genetic in origin. This brief review is intended to provide a guide to the diagnosis of problems presenting most commonly in adolescent/teenage children, to help with initial assessment and management and to stress the need for referral to appropriate endocrine or other specialist services. Long-term management of individual diagnoses is beyond the scope of this article (references are provided for further reading). In order to focus on the teenage child, precocious puberty (by definition, before the age of 8 years in girls and 9 years in boys) is not discussed, but readers can seek guidance from a recent review1.

Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) is a genetic disorder frequently characterized by obesity, growth hormone deficiency, genital abnormalities, and hypogonadotropic hypogonadism. Incomplete or delayed pubertal development as well as premature adrenarche are usually found in PWS, whereas central precocious puberty (CPP) is very rare. This study aimed to report the clinical and biochemical follow-up of ...

Extended Abstract Precocious puberty is the appearance of secondary sexual characteristics before 8 years old in girls and 9 years old in boys. Precocious puberty is divided into 3 groups of central, peripheral and normal variants. Central precocious puberty is accompanied by activation of hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis which causes increase in secretion of GnRH, and in turn increase i...

Several endocrine abnormalities are likely to contribute to a low prevalence of acne in DS patients. Androgens, such as dihydrotestosterone and testosterone, the adrenal precursor dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate, estrogens such as estradiol, and other hormones, including growth hormone and insulin-like growth factors (which are maximally secreted during adolescence), may each be important in the...

This manuscript reviews the present knowledge related to folliculogenesis in sheep.Folliculogenesis starts with formation of primordial follicles before birth, present as a pool containing a certain number of follicles. By the attainment of puberty, a group of follicles from that pool starts to grow, a process known as primordial follicle activation or recruitment. The number of growing primord...
